The Campaign for Wool Interiors Collection

The Campaign for Wool Interiors Collection (CfWIC) will be launched in October as part of the fifth anniversary celebrations of HRH The Prince of Wales’ Campaign for Wool. Consisting of fifty individual wool interior items of different styles – the CfWIC offers something of interest for everyone and at all price ranges.

A broad range of fabrics, flooring, furnishings and lifestyle items including craft and creative pieces have been gathered together to show the story of wool interiors in this the fifth Wool Week of The Campaign for Wool.  Covering High Street, Designer, Bespoke, and Commercial sectors, it has a special focus on stunning carpets and rugs of which the majority of British and New Zealand Wool is used.

HRH The Prince of Wales had his environmentalist beliefs in the natural, sustainable and biodegradable properties of wool firmly in place when he stimulated the whole wool industry by initiating the campaign in 2010.   Whilst his primary aim was to improve the position for the sheep farmer by increasing wool returns for raw wool; the result is a powerful global campaign that unites the whole industry from the sheep farmer through spinner, manufacturer to the retailer.

The Campaign’s many promotions aim to educate and inspire the consumer and this has helped showcase the fibre’s aesthetic and versatility across fashion, interiors, craft, artisan and the built environment.  Funded by the world’s leading organizations, it has given the wool community a major incentive to work together to promote its unique story.

The CfWIC has been garnered from selected pre-existing products to those that have been specifically commissioned. All items will be available to buy via retail stores or online.  Items from John Lewis, Marks and Spencer and Heals will feature along side stunning rugs from Edward Fields, Roger Oates and Christopher Farr.  Tapestry from Weftfaced, crochet from Rowan and even a stylish behind the scenes book on Herdwick sheep farming by Cherchbi. There is much more to this than meets the eye as special stories support the place of many items and so the wool interest is multi-layered.

The CfWIC will be on display during Wool Week – 5-12th October at the iconic Southwark Cathedral, London and later in Yorkshire. (venue tbc)  This thoughtful collection will sit within the shadows of Southwark’s spire in its covered and transformed courtyard and also in parts of the Cathedral itself designed to enhance the historical features.

There will also be a small textile student collective celebrating new talent and the importance of young designers and makers to the wool industry. Other special features will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Collection and Exhibition is the work of Bridgette Kelly, interiors director of The Campaign for Wool and Arabella McNie, Curator and Stylist, who worked together on Wool House in March 2013.

“The Campaign for Wool’s ambition is to bring together a tribute to the wool industry with its abundance of design talent and amazing production skills.  Arabella McNie’s eye for detail and design adds much to the Collection and will offer a feast for the textile lover.

Ultimately, it is a mere snapshot of the story that wool offers to interiors but it highlights how wool is the superior natural fibre of the future.”  Bridgette Kelly said.
